England squad
As Fabio Capello selects his squad to face France, whose impressed the new gaffer?
After months of will he, won’t he, David Beckham is selected in Fabio Capello’s squad to earn his 100th cap. The former England captain has been selected in a 30 man provisional squad to go to Paris to face World Cup Finalists France.
If selected in the final selection, Beckham will become only the 5th England player to reach 100 caps after Peter Shilton, Bobby Charlton, Billy Wright and World Cup winning Captain Bobby Moore.
The elusive 100 caps looked to have escaped Beckham after England failed to qualify for Euro 2008 and after he was excluded from Capello’s first squad due to fitness concerns. Lightning has struck twice as Capello dropped Beckham in his Real Madrid days only to restore the winger to the side.
Having missed the Italian’s first game in charge England Captain John Terry is fit again and will battle Steven Gerrard for the armband.
After several impressive displays Middlesbrough centre back David Wheater gets a call up to the senior side.
