Champions League Final
It’s an all English affair
In the last few weeks Chelsea have caught Manchester United at the top of the Premier League and in their Champions League Semi Final vs. Liverpool last night they caught up with them again, only this time it will be in Moscow.
Chelsea undoubtedly benefited from playing the second leg at Stamford Bridge. This allowed them to recover from whatever result they picked up away and secure their final place.
Avram Grant has answered his critics by guiding Chelsea to their first Champions League Final and still harbours hope of a United stumble in the League to allow himself to nab the Premier League Title.
Sir Alex Ferguson was largely doubted for his tactics in the away leg against Barcelona, however now the 0-0 in the Nou Camp proved to be an inspired result as the defence once again held strong after Paul Scholes’ opener.
Manchester United must now focus on domestic matters as the premier League title still needs putting to bed. Fergie knows that the League is still Manchester United’s hands however may look to rest a number of players for Moscow.
Both clubs in recent years will feel they should have reached a Champions league Final sooner so will not waste their opportunity to grab the big prize.
Paul Scholes has been an excellent servant in the red of Manchester United. In the centre of the park he has been bossing the midfield for many years. A quiet man on and off the pitch Scholes has proved to be one of the Best Midfielders in his generation and arguably England’s most gifted player since Paul Gascoigne.
It was fitting that Scholes and one of his trademark strikes would send United to only their 3rd Champions League Final. He missed the 1999 Final through suspension and that was a key factor to United struggled in that game, but with him this time Manchester United will be hard to beat
