Real Madrid vs. Barcelona
The La Liga giants meet in ‘El Clasico’
After recovering away at Osasuna at the weekend thanks to a late goal from Gonzalo Higuaín, Real Madrid clinched the La Liga title.
This was a hammer blow to their rivals Barcelona, as this condemned them to a second successive trophy less season after being knocked out of the Champions league Semis by Manchester United just 4 days earlier.
Even a 6-0 win over Valencia at the weekend may not save manager Frank Rijkaard who is already being tipped to leave and possibly take over at Chelsea.
Third placed Barcelona have just 3 games left to catch Villarreal who are 4 points ahead of them and sit in the last remaining automatic Champions League place.
Barcelona will have to win tonight without the suspended forwards Deco and Samuel Eto’o and centre back Gabriel Milito through injury.
Real Madrid, refresh from winning title no. 31, are only without Italian Fabio Cannavaro.
Real Madrid will still be in party mode following the weekend but would love to do the double over Barcelona having won at the Nou Camp back in December. Barcelonaon the other hand desperately need the points to avoid 3rd place, but may struggle with their out key players.
Real Madrid have returned back to the top heights of La Liga. Having gone 4 years without the trophy, they have now won the Spanish Title in back to back seasons.
They will hope that next season they can produce some of their domestic form on the European stage and improve on their 9 previous Champions League successes
