King Kev admits Newcastle cannot catch ‘Big 4’
After their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea on Monday, Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan admitted that the Magpies are unlikely to catch the Top Four in his tenure.
These comments have left the former England Manager in hot water with Owner Mike Ashley and they are set for crunch talks in this week.
These comments have shocked many as Keegan came so close to winning the Title in his previous spell at the club back in 96’. Since his outburst, Portsmouth Manager has reinforced his comments by suggesting it would take upwards of £150 million to break the Big 4.
With the disappointing 11th place all but secured, Keegan may look for whole sale changes in the Newcastle ranks. This would need a couple of big cheques from owner Mike Ashley to support his Manager.
Keegan will be looking to patch up his leaky defence which has conceded 62 goals in 37 games in the league this season. Manchester City centre back Richard Dunne may be on his summmer wish list
With a few new signings in the Newcastle squad and the introduction of serial absentees Shay Given and Damien Duff, King Kev may just have a squad capable of reaching Europe next season.
Newcastle won their 6th FA Cup at Wembley as they beat Manchester City 3-1. Goals from Magpies Legend Jackie Milburn in their first minute coupled with strikes from Mitchell and Hannah gave Newcastle the Cup. This would be the last major trophy won by Newcastle to date.
